Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. ²⁷But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!"

Rewrite this section from St Matthew's Gospel as if you were a reporter on board ship, witnessing the events first hand. Engage the reader with your account of this miraculous event.

Sailing the ocean waves

Please produce a piece of descriptive writing about sailing at speed. Use this video link on youtube to inspire you.

Check with your parents before you start using youtube as they may want to work alongside you and supervise your use of the internet.

The information sheets in your write stuff books contain some technical vocabulary about yachts and sails that you may find useful.

Write stuff Group - The Land all covered in trees...

"They sailed to the Western Sea, they did, To a land all covered with trees, And they bought an Owl, and a useful Cart, And a pound of Rice, and a Cranberry Tart, And a hive of silvery Bees. And they bought a Pig, and some green Jack-daws, And a lovely Monkey with lollipop paws, And forty bottles of Ring-Bo-Ree, And no end of Stilton Cheese. Far and few, far and few, Are the lands where the Jumblies live; Their heads are green, and their hands are blue, And they went to sea in a Sieve.

What happened in the land all covered with trees and why did they stay so long?

Write a letter home from one of the Jumblies to send in a bottle. Describe some of the daily routines in the land all covered with trees and one extraordinary event that occured. Use your book to draft some ideas and then type up your finished work into the blog. Your letter home should be between 450 and 500 words long. Add it to the blog when you are ready but at the latest by Tuesday 1st November. Use one blank page to draw, in coloured pencil, a portrait of a Jumbly.

My favourite book

This is a difficult choice. I would however, after considering books by Thomas Eidson, pick The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. This beautifully written book paints such a captivating picture of people struggling to find their way in the world. I love it.

Ness the Nurse is another favourite of mine.

My favourite toy as a child was Lego. I used to have some blue lego rails and an engine which would go around the track. It was great. I think my greatest construction was the figure of 8 railway track with a bridge in the middle which was strong enough to take the weight of the engine and carriages and all those batteries. Lego club will be starting again soon.

The school's vision statement is

Staff and governors worked together to reaffirm their commitment to this statement on the INSET day on the 5th January 2011. Staff and governors identified a set of values which support this statement.

When is a good time to go to church?

The children had a really good time recently at the church where they celebrated Ascension day together again. Classes 1 and 2 sang particularly well and they are to be congratulated indeed a representative from the Diocese of Chichester reports that " the children's behaviour and contribution to the worship was exemplary". A number of parents helped accompany the children up to the church.

How could we make it easier for other parents to join the children for these celebrations? Are the beginning and end of the day better times for parents. Please let us know.

Lettings

The lettings policy of the school was reviewed recently to make the letting of the hall much more affordable and to support the use of the school by the school community. Please contact the school business manager if you would be interested in leasing the hall for an event or party.
